The BMC TMR01 aero road bike got it’s official US product launch at this year’s Interbike show. Many of you who paid close attention to the BMC Racing team this year probably noticed the team riding stealthy all black pre-production versions of the TMR01 at various races earlier this year. The new road bike is BMC’s first true aero road bike designed to meet the needs of sprinters, GC contenders, time trialists, and breakaway specialists alike. The aero road bike uses the same trip wire shapes as the TM01 dedicated time trial bike. The trip wire shape looks much like the foil shape you’d expect to see on an airplane wing, but is cut off near the rear. The Trip wire moniker comes from a recessed ridge found on the leading edge of the tube profiles, the edge is said to let air flow better over the shape and thus less drag. BMC claim they spent an extensive amount of time in the wind tunnel to find that this shape offered the perfect balance of aerodynamics and mechanical efficiency.
The TMR01 is not only the most aero road frame in the BMC lineup now, it’s also the stiffest. The TMR01 is said to be the best of both worlds, “advanced aerodynamics combined with outstanding system integration.” Both brakes are fully integrated into the frame, in fact, the cabling for the front brake is hidden behind a structural and most importantly, UCI approved, section that keeps the front looking aero and clean aesthetically. The rear brake is hidden underneath the chainstay and is easily adjusted we’re told.
The TMR01 was designed with Shimano’s upcoming Dura Ace Di2 groupset in mind, but can also be run with a mechanical groupset. With various ports and plugs, part of their Dual Transmission Integration, included to make each installation as clean as possible keeps the frame future proof.
Pricing has not been set yet, but we’d expect the frameset to be somewhere upwards of $4500. Available in 4 colorways based on full build component choices. The TMR01 will be offered in six sizes from 48-61cm.
