“Hushovd tops uphill sprint
While claps of thunder surrounded Barcelona this afternoon, those in the Catalan capital clapped for the God of Thunder, Thor Hushovd, who prevailed on stage six after a wet and slightly wild day. Cervelo’s Norwegian strongman managed to pip Rabobank’s fancied sprinter Oscar Freire outside the Olympic Stadium in Spain’s beloved city.
David Millar today proved that Mark Cavendish isn’t the only British rider to watch at this year’s Tour de France, the Garmin-Slipstream rider coming so close to taking line honours, although it wasn’t to be.” Read more from CyclingNews.com…
“Hushovd beats home riders to take Barcelona stage
BARCELONA (Reuters) – Norway’s Thor Hushovd took advantage of the rain and a tricky finale to take his seventh career victory on the Tour de France on Thursday in the 181.5-km sixth stage from Girona to Barcelona.
The Cervelo team sprinter denied local riders a home win as the race moved into Spain, with favorite Oscar Freire finishing second ahead of compatriot Jose Joaquin Rojas.
Fabian Cancellara retained the overall leader’s yellow jersey. Seven-times champion Lance Armstrong stayed second with the same time as the Swiss.” Read more from Reuters…

(CNN) — Thor Hushovd led a mass sprint finish win the sixth stage of the Tour de France in wet conditions on Thursday, while overall leader Fabian Cancellara remained a second ahead of comeback king Lance Armstrong.

The top 43 riders were all classified with a time of four hours, 21 minutes and 33 seconds, including Cancellara in 10th and seven-time champion Armstrong in 27th.” Read more from CNN International…
“Hushovd wins wet, crash-filled day as Garmin’s Millar is swept up at final kilometer
On a day of crashes, wet roads and rolling climbs, Cervélo’s Thor Hushovd powered his way to a sprint win ahead of three-time world champion Oscar Freire (Rabobank).
Garmin-Slipstream’s David Millar survived from an early breakaway until the final kilometer, where the lanky time trialist was reeled in as the course kicked sharply upwards. Although not a categorized climb, the pitch hit 6.6 percent before easing off near the finish, and was enough to shake points leader Mark Cavendish (Columbia-HTC) from his position near the front.” Read more from VeloNews.com…
