At The Sea Otter Classic back in April, I ran into the folks at Zym Products. They sell a couple of different training electrolyte supplements that are in the form of large tablet (for size think of an alka seltzer tablet). The tablets come in a handy plastic tube. You simply drop one into a water bottle and it dissolves. The resulting electrolyte beverage is a little effervescent, subtly sweet, and doesn’t leave an after taste. After sampling both flavors (lemon-lime and berry) I like the Catapult Berry flavor best.

Another reason I like the berry version? Guarana. Each tablet contains 100mg of caffeine. I’m a coffee addict, so getting a little dose of my favorite drug with every swig is a bonus.

This past weekend, we did an 80+ mile California Route 1 coastal ride from Santa Cruz to San Gregorio and back. With Zym in the bottle, I felt amped throughout the ride, and had plenty of energy for the after-ride BBQ. Maybe the other folks at the BBQ would disagree with an amped thinkcooper as being a good thing, but from my perspective, it was.

Zym. It gets the thinkcooper buzz of approval.
