Team Garmin-Slipstream Announces Roster Additions

Team continues mission of developing young talent while adding accomplished pro riders

BOULDER, COLORADO — Team Garmin-Slipstream, the American professional cycling team dedicated to ethical sporting and developing the next generation of cycling champions, today announced six exciting additions to its 2010 roster:

Robbie Hunter – the South African joins from Barloworld and in his new role with the Garmin-Slipstream squad will be a huge asset in leading out sprinter Tyler Farrar. Garmin will also look to Hunter for various stage wins throughout the year.

Fredrik Kessiakoff – Kessiakoff is undoubtedly one of the most talented, though slightly unknown, climbers in the peloton. The Garmin team has a history of helping lesser-known riders blossom and believes Kessiakoff is no exception. The four-time Swedish mountain biking champion joins the team from Fuji-Servetto.

Team Type 1 Will Remain Continental Squad For 2010

Atlanta – Team Type 1 will register as a UCI Continental team for the 2010 season, CEO and Founder Phil Southerland announced on the eve of the Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championship weekend.

“Thanks to our great sponsors and partners, we now have a clearer picture of our long-term program,” Southerland said. “We head into next season with the intention of going after Pro Continental status in 2011.”

In 2009, Team Type 1 was one of 13 Continental teams licensed through USA Cycling and the International Cycling Union (UCI). Only one U.S.-based squad was registered as a Pro Continental team.

The Team Type 1 men’s professional team, which was founded in 2008 following a pair of amateur victories at the Race Across America (RAAM) in 2006 and 2007, has achieved 98 victories and 215 podium finishes. Co-founder Joe Eldridge and Southerland are two of four riders on the squad who have Type 1 diabetes.

2010 Jamis Xenith Spied at Sea Otter, more to come at Interbike!

Back in April while we were down at the 2009 Sea Otter Classic, we spied a new 2010 Jamis Xenith. It would have gone unnoticed to most, even us to be completely honest, due to it’s 2009 Team Colavita paint job. This prototype was there to be tested and riden for feedback. We weren’t able to get all the details on this 2010 Xenith, but we were able to wrangle a few tidbits out of our anonymous informant. Apparently the new frame is going to be one of the cleanest finished carbon frames to come to market. Meaning Jamis has been able to produce a frame with virtually no wrinkles or excess resin in critical areas of this Xenith. It’s a completely new system, using a proprietary bladder system that’s said to be exclusive to Jamis at the moment.

We’ll be able to get the full low down on this and all of Jamis’s 2010 lineup at the upcoming Interbike show in late September. Videos, photos, interviews, and virtual booths are just some of the exciting things we have planned to cover the show. So check back regularly for press releases and announcements from now til show time, September 21-25, 2009.

Trek Unveils All-New 6 Series Madone

<

CÔTE D’AZUR CAP-MARTIN, FRANCE and WATERLOO, WI - Trek Bicycle today announced an all-new 6 Series Madone, the stiffest, lightest, and fastest Madone yet. Unveiled to the world against the backdrop of the Col de la Madone — the storied climb where seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong has tested his pre-Tour fitness since 1998, and the climb for which the Madone is named — the new 6 Series Madone establishes a new benchmark for total performance, pushing the boundaries of road bike design and integration with a host of new technologies, including the latest addition to Trek’s proprietary OCLV Carbon family, OCLV2.

“The 6 Series Madone represents another major technological milestone for Trek,” noted Trek’s Road and Triathlon Brand Manager, Nick Howe. “We’ve been working on this project since before the release of our last Madone [in 2007], and have been through 70 design iterations before we had a product worthy of the Madone designation. To be able to introduce the bike in the place where it received its name is very special for us, and we’re excited about sharing it with the world.”

“There are new ideas integrated into this bike,” noted seven-time Tour de France Champion and Trek athlete, Lance Armstrong. “This is next generation stuff. The Madone has evolved, and we’ve ended up with something that’s the lightest, stiffest, fastest, best bike that I’ve ever ridden. I think there’s no doubt that the equipment we’ll ride in this Tour de France will be far and away the best equipment in the peloton.”

Possible New Trek Madone for 2010?

It was just two years ago this very month that Trek announced a new radically different, designed from the ground up, ‘no constraints’ Madone. And though it’s still a relatively fresh platform for Trek, they’ve been making slight updates to the design over the last two years. But what we see here might be more than minor tweaks.

Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer recently showed up to the Nevady City Bicycle Classic on blacked out Madones. We can only suspect they’re Trek’s latest prototypes of a new Madone coming for 2010.
