Possible New Trek Madone for 2010?

June 23rd, 2009 by thien

It was just two years ago this very month that Trek announced a new radically different, designed from the ground up, ‘no constraints’ Madone. And though it’s still a relatively fresh platform for Trek, they’ve been making slight updates to the design over the last two years. But what we see here might be more than minor tweaks.

Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer recently showed up to the Nevady City Bicycle Classic on blacked out Madones. We can only suspect they’re Trek’s latest prototypes of a new Madone coming for 2010.

looks like a new version of giro helmet..

  2. brian s. Says:

    what helmet?

  3. mark Says:

He’s also rolling on an SRM/Red crank with Mavic wheels.

  4. mark Says:

Correction: not Mavic, but special Lance graphics Bontrager wheels.

  5. Jaron Says:

Maybe Trek stopped paying for sponsorship and now they have black bikes with no logo’s (like the faded Astana jersey’s during the Giro) :)

looks a lot like my Giant Advanced TCR sans to seat post change.

  7. uzziefly Says:

Well, it looks a little like the Cervelo R3 with the thin seat stays now.

Additionally, the sloping top tube design (although minimal for Trek) looks to still be there.

Slightly thicker chainstays (or it could be when compared to the seatstays so this might be a visual trickery)

The downtube looks similar to that of the current Madone and isn’t there also an internal cable routing now too?

I can’t see much difference honestly. It’s kinda like a fusion between the current Madone and the Madone Lance last used in his final Tour win. That sounds about right.

The wider downtube for extra stiffness, the reverting to traditional seat posts(almost) and well, some minor tweaks here and there.

Personally? I think the current Madone looks better coz this one just looks similar to the older one. Nttawwt of course.

What has been said, but pay close attention to the NDS chainstay…there is an ovalized section with a dot in the center just about where the pedal sweeps by and where a rear wheel magnet would go. Is this an integrated sensor pickup for cadence and rear wheel? These high rez photos really show it. It was somewhat visible in earlier photos too.

  9. Freddy Says:

Looks like it’s missing the front deraileur clamp like the older Trek carbon bikes (they used a little metal bracket that screwed into the seat tube with two screws). If I recall didn’t they use a front deraileur clamp on the last incarnation of the Madone?

Chris Horner had the same bike, except his was painted in Astana team colors as he was wearing his Astana kit. I think they had Lance’s painted black because he was racing under Mellow Johnny’s. You can see a photo of Chris’ bike on http://www.cyclingfans.com

Top and down tube seem not as “bowed” as on current Madone. Hope it can fit BB30 cranksets. Also the chainstays are joined by a thin monostay ala the old Lemond Triomphe carbon frame. Downtube looks gigantic, esp. on Horner’s painted bike.

  12. Josh Says:

Top tube seems to be sloping - a compact design found in the “Performance” fit as opposed to the straighter top tube found in the current “Pro” fit model. Also, the seat stays appear to be straighter and less curved than the current seat stays.

  13. Ben Says:

It looks like the seat cap/tube is now a rounded version instead of the ovalized style of 08-09. Perhaps they found this to be so successful on their top fuels, that they tried it on the madone.

  14. jason Says:

looks like the gary fisher that kelly b team just got.

  15. Jason, NC Says:

It looks like a painted cannondale. If it was a Trek, it would be in pieces.

  16. carl hungus Says:

Looks like the need to go back to hand made steel frames.
