“Slovenia’s Bozic wins Tour of Spain sixth stage
(AFP)
XATIVA, Spain — Slovenia’s Borut Bozic of Vacansoleil won the sixth stage of the Tour of Spain on Friday as Germany’s Andre Greipel of Team Columbia held on to the overall lead.
The 29-year-old captured the 176.8km (109-mile) stage that started and ended in the eastern town of Xativa and included two testing mountain climbs in 4 hours, 40 minutes, 50 seconds.
US rider Tyler Farrar of Garmin placed second, ahead of Italy’s Daniele Bennati of Liquigas.
Greipel, who won the previous two stages of the Tour of Spain, finished the stage in 10th place.
“It is a dream and I am satisfied for my win given that I arrived at the end of the stage stuck together with Farrar and Bennati. At 250 metres from the finish I decided to pull away and I managed to surprise them,” said Bozic.” Read more from the AFP…
“Slovenian Bozic sprints to stage victory
(CNN) — Slovenian Borut Bozic took the honors on the 176km sixth stage of the Vuelta Espana in Xativa after coming out on top in a sprint finish.
Bozic, who was pipped to a stage win by Greg Henderson on Monday, launched his attack early in the final sprint and never looked under threat as he finished clear of Tyler Farrar, Daniele Bennati, Davide Vigano and Tom Boonen.
German Andre Greipel, who had won the previous two stages and finished fourth in the two before that, finished 10th on Friday to keep his six-second lead over Quick Step rider Boonen.
Earlier in the day, a four-man group broke away early on and led the way for a large part of the stage — enjoying leads of up to seven minutes in sweltering heat in the east of Spain.” Read more from CNN International…
