Trek World 2009, a mini-interbike for Trek brands to introduce local bike shop owners and managers to their new offerings is underway in Waterloo this week. Earlier in the week, an event called “Backstage” began, where Trek flew in regular shop guys to get a sneak preview of what’s to come in 2009. A good friend of RoadBikeReview was one of the lucky “shop guys” to go and sent these photos of a new line of Gary Fisher road bikes that will be debuting in 2009.
The line looks to include several road bikes, a fixed/SS gear model, and a cross model for 2009. Word is that the line is very limited this year, but plans are already underway for 2010 and 2011 models. Models that may include new OCLV offerings.

whoa… Trek replacing lemond pretty quickly. Is this more the entry level options? And them Klein will take up the higher models for alternative road bikes?
Nobody is going to buy Gary Fisher road bikes. Even if their bikes are good: they are known as such a mountain bike company, like Kona, that they will have trouble crossing over. Plus, Gary Fisher isn’t even that great in the mountain arena: if it weren’t for 29ers reviving the brand, they would be practically invisible right now.
I’ll buy one that ARC Pro is hawt!! I love my Sugar and can’t wait to get a GF roadbike.
I think their biggest competition will come from the Madone! GF’s are usually priced a bit lower though. Now, what type of MTB racer doesn’t also hit the road a few times a week? The extension of the line (and especially the LONG awaited cyclocross bike) makes perfect sense to me. Anyhoo…it is about time they dropped LeMond & Klein…they were sinking ships.
I’d buy one if I hadn’t made 3 bike purchases this (all Trek’s mind you) year! My Superfly has exceeded my expectations, I LOVE it.
It is pretty obvious that the Fisher road line is intended to fill the same role that Lemond played in the past few years: getting Trek product into non-trek dealers to improve market penetration and attempt to take some sales away from Giant and Specialized. The more interesting question is how long this incarnation of the Fisher road bike will last my guess is that this is a short term deal
Is that an elastomer on the inside of the fork of the ARC Pro close up shot? I think that they can do well with the GF line, especially if they pump a little more media attention into it than the Lemond line has gotten. May be more of a “current” looking bike compared to the Lemonds. Would like to test our the ARC Pro!

Gary was a road racer, and a pretty good one before he started klunking. I think its a good move.
I’ll definitely be picking up the single speed model, Triton!
I like it! Since it’s from Trek, you know it will still be designed and built well, even if Fisher has 0 history with road bikes. I would definitely put this bike in the running for my next pruchase, especially if it’s made in the USA (which I doubt)
BTw – what I’ve read is Klein is coming bak to the US after 2 year hiatus. it was still being sold in Eurpoe though.
Wow,A dream come true for all of us Mtb Fisher fans and there are an assload of us out here Scott.After my Sugar,Paragon and Hifi pro I will be first in line to go Fish on pavement.Mabey that great Fisher attitude will make it out to the road so I will not have to suffer with Weinies like Scott anymore.
That ARC Pro paint job is very similar to many of the Argon 18 bikes. I still like it though.
Gary has some great Ideas for his 2010″ line.

I used to race with Gary in the 60s and 70s and he was a “serious” road racer long before mountain bikes were ever thought of. We raced together on the same team, Pedali Alpini, based in Palo Alto, Los Gatos, Woodside, CA (before he moved from Burlingame to Belvedere in Marin County). Another long time roadie, Tom Rithchey (you might have heard of him too), was also on the same road racing team (I was there in Milaukee, WI in 1976 when Tom placed 10th in the National Championships road race!). Back then, we all rode Cinellis and Masis (all Campy of course), so trust me, Gary knows road bikes (and so does Tom).
Maybe Mondonico should start making mountian bikes if Gary Fisher(trek) is going to make road bikes? They could have at least put Shimano Pro parts on it, then people wouldn’t be forced to ride Bontrager stuff, and OEM for Trek wouldn’t be too expensive.
The Triton is a good thought, but looks like Torelli allready has the best “path racer” with the TIPO UNO. Rack and bottle mounts with slack raod geometry add in long reach brakes and all the cool leather stuff(seat,toe straps,bartape)!!!! I am sold on the Torelli. Classic style and PANELS!!!!!
I’m sorry, but I don’t see anything very unique or extra special about these bikes. They’re just LeMond’s with GF’s name on ‘em. Besides, GF is a mountain bike company – always has been, so why now? Why doesn’t Trek just pool together some of their loot and create a new bike line. That takes some balls and would get my respect. The industry doesn’t need more of the same out there – \different\ but still the same.
I have an ’06/’07 triton, and I was a _little_ surprised to see my frame with gears on it. The original tritons were just rebranded Lemond Fillmores sans drops – I’ve compared them side by side. I see they even went back to true temper (which they dropped on the ’08/’09 tritons due to price point…damn pistas). If you look at the geometry you’ll see how close it is. I do like the green, but my white on black and quality tubeset rulz teh r00st. I guess this is the result of Trek dropping Lemond; we’ll see how it goes.
I should clarify – Presidio OX frame is like the triton frames old yore
Brand identity, mixed with watching SRAM break into road would be my suspicions for motive.

Yeah but they are both really just a Pontiac Aztec built by Toyota(Giant). Treks, Fisher and Lemond are overpriced and have too much house brand on them.
GF mtb bikes rule….now I want to get on one of those road bikes…bet they are as good as the mtbs.

The ARC super is great starter bike with a lot more bang for your buck than Trek’s 2010 2.0 line up. I’ve looked at both the 2.1 and the arc super, and when it comes down to it just about the only difference is that the arc has more carbon on the frame. To me that’s pretty much a no brainer, why would you pay virtually the same price for a Trek that has a lesser quality frame? I do agree this is a dumb move by Trek as it is surely going to take away sales from their entry to mid range road bike segment.

Hope I did the right thing. Just purchased a GF arc pro road bike, I bought it because it looked cool, had nice components, and in my opinion it rode nicer compared to the trek 2.1 and 2.3. However, I also got a trek 2.1 for my wife,and its a great bike also, but its not a smooth as the GF.
Got me a ARC Super triple last month. While I might not be the most sophisticated about bikes (moving over from I hybrid), I could not be happier with this one. great ride all around. 600+ miles already.
I bought the ARC Super Compact (50/34) on 8/8/09 as my first road bike. Since its my first real bike and first bike in about 20 years (I’m 39), I can only give a new rider’s perspective, but I can say that I have greatly enjoyed it and cycling has been a real revelation. I have about 200 miles on the bike in the first two weeks. I have pretty significant back issues (L4/L5 disc problem) and I’m happy to report that after tweaking the fit, I have found a pretty comfortable riding position with the Arc Super. This might not separate it from others, but it’s worth noting. I did switch out the saddle to one with gel padding, but after a little more time in the saddle, I can see myself going back to the original seat.
I did try out a Giant Defy (M and L) and a GT GTR series 4 (L) on the same day. I had about 6 other under $1000 road bikes on my list to try out (the ARC Super was 1099 without pedals so more expesive than the others to be fair). But I liked the way the ARC Super felt so much and it seemed like the components gave a lot of bang for the buck (granted this was based on just a few hours of internet research), so I pulled the trigger. I did really like the ARC Super’s shifters vs. the other two both in terms of the mechanism and the smoothness of the shift. On the Defy and GTR, I didn’t like the thumb button which was difficult to reach from the drops. It seemed like to me it would always be a little annoying reaching for it. And even though I knew I’d ride most of the time on the hoods, I didn’t like the thought of this. The Giant Defy strained a little bit under my 200 lb. The ARC Super and GT GTR did not.
