RoadBikeReview Visits CycleLife USA

By DA

Imagine for a second… your local bike shop, local cafe, gym, sports testing facility, and favorite lounge all rolled up in one, and what you’ll get is CycleLife USA. CycleLife is a new lifestyle company dedicated to cyclist and all their needs. Housed in a 12,000 square foot facility on the shore of the Potomac River in Washington D.C you’ll find one of the most complete array of services, equipment, and amenities ever put under one roof dedicated solely to the cyclist. In fact, on our visit to the facility recently, the only thing missing might have been a wind tunnel. But I wouldn’t put it past founders Michael Sanchez and Rui Ponte to have one in the works. We met up with the two recently and got a tour of the facility and also some background on how CycleLife came to life.

Aimed at servicing cyclists of all skill levels, CycleLife is focused on providing the best possible service to cyclists in a relaxed and elegant environment. The facility has been best described as a “cyclist’s country club”, and we now understand why. The facility includes not only a cafe and bike shop, complete with a full service repair area downstairs, but also such fine amenities as world class training equipment, a sports physiology testing room, full locker rooms and showers, a steam room, and many other services commonly found in country clubs. All housed in a state of the art facility designed by architect and co-founder Rui Ponte. Membership does have its perks, but membership is also very limited, as the number of members will be capped at 150. This is to ensure that every member gets the highest level of service possible. CycleLife is definitely something unique and fills the void in a very niche market.

Very swanky… I’d get thrown out of a place like that.

Very nice place, friendly and a great addition to the Washington bike scene. Some of the employees are well known and respected in town. Service has been incredibly friendly and pleasant too. I hope they make it (in this tough economy) and that they reach out to the community.
